Japanese Swords, or Nihonto are the standard bladed weapons of all of Eastern history. With the eventual evolution of armed forces and feudal society in this period a totally new class of infantryman appeared.
They were pros of the art of war and developed from being employed as guards serving robust leaders, into a completely dominant class of there own, the Samurai.
It led straight to the establishment of the feudalistic armed forces that then established the systems of the Bushido, which dominated the Japanese social structure for the following seven hundred years.
Samurai’s need for these high quality weapons produced next generation swords of matchless perfection, as they wished to be flexible enough to withstand direct impact without breaking, but had to also be hard enough to keep their pointy edge.
Only the most experienced Japanese sword smiths were prepared to develop the forging and heat-treating methodologies that led to swords that had both these properties, at last named the Katana.
