In the 1870s, Captain Nathan Algren, a cynical veteran of the American Civil war who will work for anyone, is hired by Americans who want lucrative contracts with the Emperor of Japan to train the peasant conscripts for the first standing imperial army in modern warfare using firearms. The imperial Omura cabinet’s first priority is to repress a rebellion of traditionalist Samurai -hereditary warriors- who remain devoted to the sacred dynasty but reject the Westernizing policy and even refuse firearms. Yet when his ill-prepared superior force sets out too soon, their panic allows the sword-wielding samurai to crush them. Terribly wounded Algren’s courageous stand makes the samurai leader Katsumoto spare his life; once nursed to health he learns to know and respect the ancient Japanese way, and participates as advisor in Katsumoto’s failed attempt to save the Bushido tradition, but Omura gets repressive laws enacted- he must now choose to honor his loyalty to one of the embittered sides when the conflict returns to the battlefield…

From the second you hold this gorgeous handmade sword you will appreciate the workmanship and attention to detail. It Gets A 7/10 rating for a lot of reasons: The Sheath Has A Terrible Problem There Is A White Thing on the inside of the sheath that feels like wax. It rubs off on the sword when you take it out and is hard to get off. you can take it out, but the sword will fall out of the sheath very easily. Another Problem Is the blade. when you buy it it is not sharp at all. mine is sharp because i spent about a day sharpening it. The Sheath Is Made Out Of Wood That Can Chip Easily. There Are some excellent things about it too. The Handle is fantastic. it has an awesome design on it with checkers and two dragons. it was more because of what the samurai stood for was being lost, not that they were becoming redundant.
had they kept all of the principles that the samurai held dear and kept the essence of their culture there might have not been a rebellion. instead though the emperor basically said “fuck everything we have believed in for a thousand years, westerners do things the ‘right’ way, so we’re going to do that too”. it was about far more than selfish pride.
yeah thats right. they messed up huge time and should have turned the samurai class into officers etc… in the new imperial army.
Even though i dont like tom cruise, this is one of the best movies ever!

Awesome movie!
This was a excellent movie. But in reality…the samurai only rebelled because with the Meiji Restoration, it means they were no longer an elite social class. And where they dominated the battlefield in Japan for thousands of years…a peasant with a few days training can shoot and kill a samurai with relative ease. In other words, their rebellion was for purely selfish reasons. Don’t believe me? Read some history. Oh…the real rebellions leader was named Takamori.

its also not a trible problem if your trying to slam the blade out
these arent crappy swords there made from alot better metal than how katanas were originaly made so there still excellent
Just add one more note to what I said before: The last Katana I imported a week ago cost me on the order of $1500. Now you can get very excellent swords for $100 and above and I have some very nice ones that cost around $300 to $400 but make sure if you do want to cut with it that it is not made of 440J and it has a full tang. Knives are made from stainless steel not swords as anything over 8 inches becomes to weak to deal with the forces of cutting as.

First it is a nice sword but:
To be blunt for the like of god do not try to cut anything with that “fake” Katana she is made of 440J stainless steel and will break like glass. Real swords are made of carbon steel and start at around 1045 grade in the mono steel range. Stainless steel has a very high amount of “Chromium” in it which means the steel will not rust but it makes it extremely brittle because it makes the steel to hard.
yes it will take an edge but they come blunt for a excellent reason.
Joke332 is rite these swords are gorgeous and can be perilous but they are perilous to use. I make hand made swords and their is nothing like a high quality blade that is really hardened. Just want to let you know so you don’t get scammed.
